Stone
"Stone" is the name of my youngest sister(Kristy) and her friend's proposed restaurant. The proposal was a necessary part of their culinary schooling. The original idea of a pyramid shape, was suggested by Kristy's friend Autumn, she had also starred in my short film "The Addendum of Samantha Rowe." Which won "Best Cinematory," Cinematory being an illiterate student's version of "Cinematography." Now, once the shape was suggested, I was drafted into making a model(in Lightwave) for some stills. But, with about a week 'till the deadline, I was asked to instead make an animation. So with the modeling 80% done, and texturing just started, I had 7 days to finish modeling/texturing AND render. Long story short: I finished modeling/texturing with five days to go. Animated for about 2 hours. Then began the rendering, which went faster than I thought it would, even though I had to go back and re-render the end. The rendering was done in three days.(Version 2 took four days.) Architecturally speaking, "Stone" is interesting for a couple reasons. The main "lift-shaft" which runs up the center of the building, and contains two passenger elevators as well as two large dumbwaiters. Secondly, the top two floors have opposing windowed sides, which give close to a 270 degree view. I'm not an architect, but I imagine the structure being a hybrid, using a ridgid outer frame, and a trussless internal skeleton. Also, the outer-most skin would be a lightweight composite material with a rough brick surface. In some places the "remains" of an older outer casing would show Egyptian-ish carvings. Update: Because the Tweedles(Kristy & Mark) were late to school, they didn't get to present for another week. In that week I fixed, and added to, the animation. Version 2 added ivy(inside & out), changed the background, made a proper third floor, and fixed some texture/lighting problems. Version 2 was also rendered at 640x480 versus the 400x300 of Version 1.
Update 2: I'm currently working on Version 3 which will contain many improvements, I plan on posting the animation when it's done. Here are some pictures of "Stone" Those two smaller pyramids house the restrooms. Version 2 changed the background from hills to an ocean.
Here you can see the carved outer casing. Version 2 added ivy.
Beyond the fountain, we see the door to a dumbwaiter(left) and the waiting area(right). Version 2 added chairs, and more ivy.
Here we travel up the stairs to the second floor.
On the second floor is the bar. Because of time constraints, there are no monkeys(sorry Mark).
Version 2 of the third floor has couches and tables for a VIP room. Note: Version 2 continues to be monkey-free. :(
This shows the 3 floors, and the below-ground kitchen.
This is shown at the end, why, what does it mean: "Your not George Lucas, I'm not ILM." It was something I kept telling my mother when she would make suggestions about the design which would've increased render times.
